BEST Launches Aggressive Ganesh Festival Outreach to Attract 1 Lakh New Electricity Consumers

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is launching an aggressive outreach campaign during the Ganesh festival to win new electricity consumers as competition from private suppliers grows. Two teams have been formed to visit Ganesh pandals, housing societies, newly constructed buildings and commercial establishments across the island city, aiming to add more than one lakh consumers to BEST's existing base of around 10.60 lakh.
BEST Committee chairperson Trushna Vishwasrao said the undertaking must become more aggressive to avoid losing ground to competitors. The push comes as private suppliers including Tata Power expand their presence. Tata Power's consumer base has reached 8 lakh, with growth exceeding one lakh in recent years, aided by innovations such as underground submersible substations in space-constrained areas.
