Mumbai: HBT Trauma Care Hospital Issues Show-Cause Notices To 2 Doctors Over Attendance Irregularities

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital has issued show-cause notices to two doctors from its ENT and dental departments over alleged attendance irregularities and unauthorised absence from duty.
One notice states that a specialist medical consultant in the ENT department was reportedly present for only two days in September. She has been asked to submit a written explanation within two working days. In a separate notice, a dental department doctor was accused of marking biometric attendance without being present in the outpatient department during designated duty hours. A doctor named Oberoi was also absent for four days, from September 24 to 27, 2026, without prior permission, and has been directed to respond within 48 hours. The hospital said the absence would be marked accordingly and the salary deducted as per applicable rules.
The notices come amid a wider BMC crackdown on attendance lapses. In August, the civic body terminated the contractual in-charge of the Medicine Department after unanswered show-cause notices. In September, 35 doctors at the hospital received notices over biometric discrepancies, and around 100 doctors across five civic hospitals were served notices over prolonged absence.
The civic administration says the aim is to ensure doctors are available to patients during working hours, not merely to record attendance. Both doctors have been warned that failure to respond could lead to further action.
