Bihar man exploits SC wife to run extortion racket using SC/ST Act

An extortion racket in Bihar has been exposed that misuses the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, to threaten and extort money from targets. The racket is run by Ravi Yadav, a non-SC/ST man, and his wife Rinki, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community. Together with relatives, they file false SC/ST Act cases to secure government compensation and extort funds from victims.
In a sting operation by Dainik Bhaskar, Yadav admitted to marrying an SC woman specifically to misuse the law for financial gain. He disclosed that he files fabricated cases on demand, charging substantial sums, and accepts payment to file cases of sexual harassment and caste discrimination. He claimed the compensation awarded to his wife following such cases would be retained by him, and that he could arrange witnesses from his wife's family to strengthen false allegations.
Yadav revealed a wider network of associates across Bihar engaged in similar exploitation, highlighting systematic abuse of a law designed to protect genuine victims of caste atrocities.
