Former BJP MP accuses Ladakh activists of misleading people on statehood demand

Former BJP MP for Ladakh Chhewang Motup has accused Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk and others of misleading the public regarding the union territory's statehood demand. Motup contended that a September 9 meeting between Ladakh civil society representatives, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the UT administration was "fruitful."

However, the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have characterised the same meeting as disappointing. Motup attributed delays in progress to differences within the civil society movement itself, rather than to any reluctance from the MHA. The disagreement reflects ongoing tensions within Ladakh's political circles over strategy and messaging on statehood.
