BJP needs more MPs to advance legislative agenda

The Narendra Modi government appears poised to reintroduce legislation aimed at expanding the Lok Sabha from its current 543 seats to 815 seats, according to recent indicators. The move would require approval of proposed amendments in parliament.
Alongside the expansion plan, the government is expected to pursue a delimitation exercise based on the 2011 decennial census. This delimitation process would redraw electoral constituency boundaries across the country, reflecting population changes recorded over the past decade.
