BMC Standing Committee Approves Second Cost Hike For Andheri Flyover Repairs; Project Cost Rises To ₹130.36 Crore

The BMC Standing Committee has approved the second cost escalation for the Andheri flyover repair on the Western Express Highway. The project cost has increased from ₹92.67 crore to ₹130.36 crore over two years, with completion now expected by November 2026. The latest round of additional work is estimated at ₹12.80 crore.
Opposition parties raised concerns about the cost escalation. Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Yashodhar Phanse and Shraddha Jadhav demanded detailed explanations for the increase and questioned whether MMRDA provided repair funds after transferring the flyover to BMC in 2022. Congress leader Ashraf Azmi asked why the bridge's condition deteriorated quickly and sought complete inspection reports.
BJP corporator Tijender Tiwana stressed the repair work's criticality given daily commuter usage, and questioned work progress, contractor payments, and delay reasons. Additional Municipal Commissioner Avinash Dhakane cited safety concerns discovered during 2024 repair work.
