BMC Floats ₹2.9 Crore Tender For Mayor's Residence Renovation, Four Months After ₹2.4 Crore Makeover

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has floated a fresh ₹2.9-crore tender for renovation work at the Mumbai Mayor's official residence in Byculla, barely four months after spending ₹2.4 crore on a similar project. If awarded, total refurbishment costs will exceed ₹5.3 crore within the same period.
Former Mayor Kishori Pednekar questioned the fresh spending, stating there was no noise pollution issue during her tenure and raising concerns about a proposed temporary container-based structure on the heritage bungalow's lawns. The new project includes bio-absorbent noise barrier panels, a container-based conference hall, drainage improvements, and staff accommodation renovations.
The 1931-built heritage bungalow, located inside the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Garden and Zoo, will undergo work within three months. BMC officials said the renovation will adhere to heritage conservation norms while maintaining the structure's original architecture.
