Bombay HC Stays BMC Action Against Mulund Sports Complex Restaurant

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday stayed the BMC's action to revoke permission for a restaurant operated by Dhanraj Hospitality & Services Pvt Ltd at the Kalidas Sports Complex in Mulund. A bench led by Acting Chief Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad halted the demolition until the next hearing.
The company challenged the BMC's action, claiming demolition began on May 16 without prior notice or hearing opportunity. Awarded the contract in 2021 through public tender, the company said it invested substantially in structural repairs and beautification. The petition alleged the action was politically motivated following claims of a "Rs 100 crore scam" linked to the premises.
The company contended it operated the eatery as per approved plans and held valid health licences, with no unauthorised work undertaken. It argued the BMC trust, not the company, should apply for the Completion Certificate.
