84 BSF personnel hospitalized in Manipur over suspected food poisoning

Eighty-four personnel of the Border Security Force and three civilians fell ill due to suspected food poisoning in Imphal West district of Manipur and were admitted to hospital. The jawans, deployed from outside the state, were stationed at a construction site in Lamshang area. After consuming breakfast of puri and potato curry around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, they began vomiting and were rushed to the emergency ward of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) by around 1 p.m.
Official sources said the jawans received immediate emergency treatment and their condition is now stable. None are in critical condition. Medical samples are being examined to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning. RIMS acting Medical Superintendent M. Rameshwar confirmed all personnel received prompt care and their health status has stabilized.
Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh expressed concern over the hospitalized jawans' health on social media, stating that security personnel's well-being is a priority and urging concerned authorities to provide the best medical facilities. Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam visited RIMS to review the situation. The incident comes shortly after BSF Director General Praveen Kumar's two-day visit to Manipur on October 12-13 to review security operations.
