Cabinet raises EPFO wage ceiling to Rs 25,000 from Rs 15,000

The Union Cabinet has raised the Employee Provident Fund wage ceiling to Rs 25,000 per month from the earlier Rs 15,000 limit. The move is intended to broaden social security coverage and provide greater financial stability to a larger segment of workers.
The government will allocate approximately Rs 11,339 crore annually for this initiative. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision at a Cabinet briefing, highlighting that expanded coverage is expected to improve employee retention and strengthen long-term financial security.
