Calcutta High Court Judge Recuses Herself from Sujit Bose Bail Case

Justice Suvra Ghosh of Calcutta High Court recused herself from hearing the bail petition of TMC leader and former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose on August 19. The judge cited an incident where Bose's counsel and his private secretary attempted to access the case file in her chamber the day after the bail decision was reserved.
According to the court order, the duo first requested court staff to retrieve the case file, and when refused, attempted to enter the chamber to view the case record. Court employees resisted both attempts. Justice Ghosh expressed strong displeasure, stating the conduct suggested an improper or hidden motive behind the case.
The judge transferred the matter to the Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court for further directions. Bose, a prominent TMC figure, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a municipal recruitment case.
