Prioritise national interest in Brics, Shashi Tharoor tells government

India will host the 18th Brics summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, 2026, during its tenure as Brics chair. The summit will bring together leaders from Brics member and partner countries, along with outreach invitees, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Shashi Tharoor has advised the government to prioritise national interest while keeping Brics non-Western in orientation. Leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen intra-Brics cooperation on shared priorities and exchange views on global and regional issues of mutual concern.
