CBI Brings Long-Absconding Accused Harnek Singh Back to India in Singapore Scam Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has secured the return of long-absconding accused Harnek Singh, who evaded investigation and trial since 2013. Singh was deported from the USA and apprehended by CBI officials upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on September 9, 2026. An Interpol Red Notice and Look-Out Circular were in force against him.
A CBI case was registered in 2016 for conspiracy, cheating, forgery and offences under the Information Technology Act. The investigation revealed that Indian nationals in Singapore were contacted through spoofed calls by fraudsters impersonating Singapore Immigration officials. Victims were falsely told they faced criminal prosecution and deportation, then coerced to pay settlement fees via Western Union Money Transfer to receivers in India.
Harnek Singh operated a money-transfer outlet where the cheated money was received, in association with co-accused Aditya Bhardwaj and Deepak Jain. Singh fled India in May 2013 and illegally entered the USA. He will be produced before the Special Judicial Magistrate (CBI Cases) in Panchkula, Haryana.
