Mumbai Police Arrest Two Former Dubai Jewellery Shop Staff Over ₹50 Lakh Extortion and ₹55 Lakh Gold Fraud

The Mumbai Crime Branch's Crime Intelligence Unit has arrested two former employees of Kanz Aldera Jewellery in Dubai's Deira Gold Souk. Former cashier Ajay Bharatbhai Pathar was arrested from Amreli in Gujarat, while former shop in-charge Subrato Dhaniram Barman was arrested from Darjeeling in West Bengal. Both were remanded in police custody for one day by the Esplanade Court.
According to the complaint, the two accused made threatening calls to Devendra Vinodray Dhanak, 51, an executive manager at the jewellery, demanding ₹50 lakh and threatening to kill him. The complaint also alleges that the accused siphoned off 470 grams of genuine gold jewellery worth approximately ₹55 lakh and replaced it with imitation ornaments. The fraud came to light in June when discrepancies were noticed during stock checks and karat meter testing.
