CBI arrests IAS officer in Panchkula Municipal Corporation embezzlement case

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Ram Kumar Singh, former Municipal Commissioner of Panchkula and an IAS officer, in connection with the embezzlement of government funds from the municipal corporation's bank account. Singh is accused of conspiring with bank officials to manipulate the account in violation of Haryana government finance department rules.
According to CBI's investigation, Singh allegedly worked with intermediaries to divert cheques meant for fixed deposits into fake company accounts instead. The agency found that the bank account was opened irregularly with information recorded in a manner designed to conceal subsequent fraudulent transactions. The senior accountant of the municipal corporation, arrested earlier, played an active role in the scam.
The case involves approximately Rs 79.46 crore in embezzlement. Raids at Singh's residences in Chandigarh and Karnal recovered important documents related to the investigation.
