Congress attacks Census 2027 questionnaire, alleges 'nefarious purpose'

The Congress party has criticised the Census 2027 questionnaire, claiming the methodology for collecting caste data is deliberately flawed. Party leader Jairam Ramesh raised concerns about micro-level questions on religion, date of birth, and place of birth of parents, which he said have never been asked in previous census exercises.
Ramesh alleged the census has a 'deeper nefarious purpose' and questioned the government's intent behind the new set of granular demographic questions being introduced for the first time in the decennial survey.
