Centre approves ₹65 crore for geospatial survey of unauthorised colonies

The Union government has approved ₹65 crore for a geospatial-based survey aimed at identifying and mapping unauthorised colonies nationwide. The initiative will utilise satellite imagery and digital mapping technology to create a comprehensive database of unauthorised residential settlements.
The survey is expected to help authorities understand the scale and distribution of unauthorised colonies, which remain a significant governance challenge in urban and peri-urban areas. The data gathered will assist in policy formulation and implementation of regularisation schemes.
