Centre seeks fishers' input for sustainable small-scale fisheries plan
The Union Department of Fisheries has launched a consultation process to gather views from fishing communities as it develops a national action plan for sustainable small-scale fisheries.
The Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO) is facilitating and coordinating the consultation exercise. The initiative aims to incorporate ground-level perspectives from fishers into policy formulation.
Small-scale fisheries form a critical segment of India's fishing sector, supporting livelihoods for millions and contributing significantly to food security and export earnings. The consultation is intended to ensure that policy interventions align with the needs and practices of fishing communities.
