Government cuts foodgrain production target to 373.93 MT amid El Niño concerns

India has reduced its foodgrain production target to 373.93 million tonnes for the 2026-27 crop year, citing concerns over El Niño weather patterns affecting agricultural conditions nationwide.
The downward revision reflects anticipated challenges to crop yields from the weather phenomenon. Kharif crop sowing operations have been completed, while rabi crop planting is scheduled to commence in October.
