CID Reaches Mamata Banerjee’s Kolkata Residence Amid Probe Into Alleged MLA Signature Forgery Case

The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday visited the Kolkata residence of senior Trinamool Congress leader and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as part of an ongoing probe into alleged forgery of signatures of party legislators in an internal resolution linked to organisational appointments.
Officials said the investigation is being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed under the CID, which is examining allegations that signatures of several TMC MLAs were falsely used in documents submitted in connection with party decisions. The CID’s action marks an escalation in the inquiry, which has already expanded across multiple party leaders.
According to officials involved in the probe, a Deputy Inspector General–rank officer is heading the SIT, and statements of 13 MLAs have already been recorded. Among them, three legislators have reportedly denied that the signatures attributed to them are genuine, while another MLA has stated that he was not present at the meeting where the resolution is said to have been passed.
Mamata Banerjee was not present at her Kolkata residence during the CID visit as she is currently in New Delhi attending a meeting of the INDIA bloc.
As part of the same investigation, CID officials had earlier visited the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, seeking the original resolution book related to the appointment of party office-bearers. He later responded through formal communication sent via his legal representatives, according to party sources.
