CJI Surya Kant defends confidentiality of judicial collegium dissent

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant defended the practice of maintaining confidentiality regarding dissent within the judicial collegium during an interaction at Central National Law University (CNLU). The CJI emphasised the importance of keeping collegium discussions private to preserve the integrity of the judicial appointment process.
The collegium, which comprises the Chief Justice and four senior-most judges, is responsible for appointing and transferring judges across Indian courts. Kant's remarks underscore the judiciary's position on protecting the confidentiality of internal deliberations during this critical decision-making process.
