CJP threatens Jantar Mantar protest if Election Commission chief does not resign

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced plans for a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, 2026, if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign from his position. CJP convenor Abhijit Dipke stated that "cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi" to protest at the landmark venue, adding that "if Delhi Police tries to stop us, wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar."
Dipke emphasized that the protest will be peaceful, stating "We will walk on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi." He framed the demonstration as part of a larger effort to protect democratic processes, saying "This is a fight to save our democracy. Every citizen who wants free fair elections must join." The CJP has previously organized protests against alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, with one such demonstration held outside Mumbai's Shivaji Park on October 2, 2026.
Dipke cautioned that the government and Delhi Police must decide whether they will "respect our right to peaceful protest or repeat the brutality we witnessed on July 20." The CJP's demands include Kumar's resignation, criminal proceedings to identify those responsible for the SIR exercise, freezing the revision process, restoring the January 2025 voters list, and repealing the 2023 law governing Election Commission appointments in favor of a transparent mechanism with civil society participation.
