“Compromised PM Silent”: Rahul Gandhi Attacks Modi Government And US Over Death Of Indian Sailors In Gulf Strike

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a strong political attack on the Narendra Modi government following the deaths of three Indian sailors in a military strike on a commercial vessel in the Gulf region, questioning the Centre's response to the incident and accusing it of remaining silent despite the loss of Indian lives.
In a social media post, Gandhi criticised both the United States and the Indian government, arguing that India should have responded more firmly after the deaths of the seafarers. Referring to official American communications regarding military operations in the region, he alleged that the language used reflected an attitude that no sovereign nation should accept.
“A free country would never tolerate such language,” Gandhi said, while accusing the Prime Minister of failing to defend the country's dignity on the global stage.
The Congress leader further claimed that the government had not shown adequate resolve after the incident and alleged that India's interests were not being protected strongly enough in dealings with foreign powers.
The remarks come amid growing political debate over the deaths of three Indian crew members aboard a merchant vessel that was struck during military action in the Gulf of Oman. The tanker was carrying 24 Indian sailors at the time of the attack. While most crew members were rescued, three were later confirmed dead.
The incident has triggered diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Washington. The Ministry of External Affairs has already lodged a formal protest with US officials, while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised India's concerns directly with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The government has maintained that attacks resulting in civilian casualties are unacceptable and has conveyed its objections through diplomatic channels. The tragedy has now emerged as a major political issue, with the opposition demanding stronger action and greater accountability over the deaths of Indian nationals abroad.
