Congress attacks Modi govt over UPI notification, alleges US pressure

The Congress party has criticised the Modi government over a recent UPI notification, with Rahul Gandhi alleging the administration is caving to US pressure. Gandhi claimed the Prime Minister was "once again surrendering" to American interests, describing him as "compromised."
Gandhi's criticism centres on concerns that the notification opens the door to charges on digital payments. He pointed out that US payment firms have historically opposed India's zero Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) policy, which keeps UPI transactions free for users.
The Congress leader accused the government of making changes "quietly," suggesting a lack of transparency in the decision-making process.
