Congress accuses U.S. of 'sovereignty affront' over Russian oil law

The Congress party has condemned recent U.S. legislation regarding Russian oil purchases, characterizing it as an encroachment on India's sovereignty. Party general secretary K.C. Venugopal stated that India is facing "aggressive bullying from a strategic partner" despite the government highlighting the recently concluded BRICS Summit's joint declaration as a sign of global confidence in the nation.
The opposition party's criticism underscores tensions between India's independent foreign policy stance and external pressure from Western allies. The remarks reflect broader concerns within Indian political circles about maintaining strategic autonomy in energy and trade decisions.
