Corrosion costs India's infrastructure ₹1.42 lakh crore yearly: Report

Corrosion inflicts an estimated ₹1.42 lakh crore in annual costs on India's infrastructure sector, according to a recent report. The study indicates that implementing robust corrosion-prevention measures could save approximately ₹49,580 crore yearly.
The report recommends adopting corrosion-protection requirements tailored to environmental exposure conditions. While Indian regulations already acknowledge these safeguards, their adoption remains optional for most infrastructure owners.
Experts urge policymakers and infrastructure operators to prioritize long-term value assessment over initial material expenses, suggesting that upfront investment in corrosion prevention could yield substantial savings.
