CRPF considering revival of Army ranks discontinued three decades ago

The Central Reserve Police Force is considering the restoration of Army ranks that were discontinued approximately 30 years ago. The move is being examined as part of a broader organisational restructuring within the paramilitary force.
The initiative focuses on two key areas: streamlining promotion pathways for existing personnel and addressing the integration of Agniveers—recruits enlisted under the government's Agnipath scheme. Senior CRPF officials are evaluating how the revival of these historical ranks could improve career progression structures.
The proposal reflects ongoing efforts to modernise the CRPF's personnel management system while accommodating the new recruitment model introduced through Agnipath. Officials are still in preliminary assessment stages, with further consultations expected before any formal decision is made.
