Dawoodi Bohra Students, Project Rise Volunteers Mark World Food Day With Food Drives Across Mumbai

Students and volunteers from the Dawoodi Bohra community marked World Food Day on October 16 by organising food collection and distribution drives across Mumbai. Project Rise, the community's global welfare initiative, worked with students at 50 community centres to collect dry rations and distribute food to daily wage earners, children in orphanages and others in need.
Schools including MSB Educational Institute in Mazgaon and Saifee High School near Bhendi Bazaar held classroom workshops on hunger and ways to reduce food waste. Taher Culcuttawala, coordinator of the school programme, said the initiative helps children understand that hunger exists close to home and provides a way to share with those in need.
Mumbai's initiative was part of a worldwide programme involving students from over 100 community schools and volunteers in more than 350 cities. Participants organised awareness walks, food drives and classroom sessions aligned with this year's World Food Day theme, "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow."
