Defence manufacturers must view R&D spending as investment: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged defence manufacturers to treat their research and development expenditure as an investment rather than a cost. The statement underscores the government's push for strengthened innovation capacity within the defence sector.
Singh reiterated his earlier call to increase the private sector's share in India's total defence production from its current level of approximately 24 percent to 50 percent. This expansion is part of broader efforts to bolster indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce import dependence.
The move reflects the government's strategy to incentivize private industry participation in defence manufacturing through policy support and encourages greater investment in technological advancement and product development within the sector.
