Delhi to deploy 2,500 AI cameras on roads; privacy concerns raised

Delhi will deploy 2,500 AI-powered cameras across its roads as part of a ₹1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), which the Union Cabinet approved on Wednesday. The project is designed to enhance traffic monitoring and management capabilities across the capital.
The expansion of surveillance infrastructure has prompted concerns from privacy advocates, who have raised questions about data protection and citizen privacy in relation to the deployment. These concerns highlight ongoing debates about the balance between improved traffic management and personal privacy rights in urban settings.
The ITMS project represents a significant investment in Delhi's traffic infrastructure modernization, marking a substantial step in the city's efforts to manage congestion and improve road safety through technological advancement.
