Delhi HC allows Coast Guard Navik to continue after EWS certificate row

The Delhi High Court allowed a candidate rejected for Coast Guard Navik recruitment to continue in service, finding ambiguity in the recruitment notice regarding EWS certificate validity.
The petitioner's candidature was rejected because his EWS certificate was from Financial Year 2023–24 instead of 2024–25. However, the Division Bench noted the recruitment advertisement did not clearly stipulate the required financial year and contained contradictory provisions creating uncertainty.
The Court granted interim relief on 16 April 2025, allowing the candidate to complete remaining selection stages. He was subsequently inducted into service. The Court disposed of the writ petition, observing that equities favoured the petitioner, particularly since his 2024–25 certificate was issued before the recruitment advertisement was released.
