Delhi HC mandates biometric Aadhaar for GST registration to check fraud

The Delhi High Court has issued a directive requiring biometric Aadhaar authentication for all Goods and Services Tax registrations. The court noted that fake registrations using stolen identity details have been a persistent problem, harming both citizens and government revenue.

Authorities had previously acknowledged the issue of fraudulent GST registrations and significant annual tax evasion but had not fully implemented biometric verification safeguards. The court's mandate aims to plug this gap and prevent misuse of the GST system.
