Delhi Police on Monday appealed to demonstrators participating in the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Chalo Sansad" protest to remain peaceful and cooperate with law enforcement after confrontations broke out near Parliament, resulting in injuries to both protesters and police personnel.
As tensions escalated in central Delhi, Additional Commissioner of Police (PRO) Rajeev Ranjan issued a public appeal, urging participants to avoid any actions that could disturb public order. He stressed that the protest should remain peaceful and that everyone should comply with lawful instructions issued by officers deployed at the site.
"Delhi Police appeals to all protestors to maintain peace, exercise restraint and cooperate with the police in ensuring peace and public order. All participants are requested to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner, refrain from indulging in any unlawful or violent activities and comply with the lawful directions issued by police officers/personnel deployed on duty," Ranjan said.
The police officer also cautioned citizens against circulating unverified information related to the protest, saying misinformation could aggravate the situation.
"The public is advised not to believe or circulate rumours, misinformation or unverified content through any platform. Citizens are requested to rely only on authentic sources of information and extend their cooperation to Delhi Police in maintaining peace, harmony and public order," he added.
The advisory came after the CJP's march towards Parliament witnessed a tense standoff between protesters and security personnel. According to reports, demonstrators attempted to move beyond security barricades, prompting police intervention. Tear gas shells were reportedly used to disperse the crowd after the situation turned volatile, while several police personnel were said to have sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Protest organisers, however, alleged that excessive force was used against participants. They claimed that several demonstrators, including women and children, were injured during the police action. Delhi Police has not officially responded to those allegations.
Authorities had deployed heavy security across the national capital in anticipation of the march, with additional police personnel stationed around Parliament, Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations. Traffic restrictions and multi-layered barricades were also put in place to prevent protesters from reaching high-security zones and to maintain law and order during the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
