DMK, Left parties criticise Vijay over private Chennai airport proposal

The DMK and Left parties have criticised actor-turned-politician Vijay after he sought the handover of Chennai airport to a private operator in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vijay's Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam party had abandoned plans for a greenfield airport at Parandur and shifted focus to expanding the existing Meenambakkam facility, with alternative sites for a second airport currently under consideration.
The opposition parties objected to the proposal for private operation of the airport, viewing it as contrary to public interest. The development marks a significant policy shift for the newly formed regional party as it navigates Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
