Election Commission clarifies: SIR notices do not mean automatic name deletion

The Election Commission has clarified that notices issued under the Summary Index Report (SIR) process do not automatically result in deletion of names from electoral rolls. The clarification came after several prominent political figures, including Arvind Kejriwal, S. Jaishankar and L.K. Advani, received SIR letters during the ongoing exercise in the national capital.
The EC's statement aims to address concerns among recipients of such notices. The SIR process is a routine administrative procedure to verify voter registrations and identify duplicate or ineligible entries. Receipt of a notice does not imply wrongdoing or guarantee removal from voter rolls.
