ED makes sixth arrest in pan-India digital arrest fraud case

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested a sixth suspect in connection with a pan-India digital arrest fraud scheme. The investigation revealed that funds cheated from victims, including a Goa resident, were routed through approximately 400 bank accounts.
According to ED findings, the money was systematically withdrawn in cash and then converted into foreign currency using RBI-licensed money changers. This complex layering mechanism allowed the fraudsters to obscure the trail of illicit funds across multiple financial channels.
The scam operates by impersonating police officers and threatening victims with legal action, coercing them to transfer money. The use of multiple bank accounts and currency conversion through authorized money changers suggests an organized network with significant operational sophistication.
