Mumbai Police Bust Fake FMGE Certificate Racket; 3 Arrested, 16 Medical Graduates Under Scrutiny

The Maharashtra Cyber Police have dismantled an alleged racket that distributed fake Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) certificates and forged documents to foreign medical graduates who failed the mandatory screening test required to practise medicine in India.
Three persons—Varun Prataprao Akhade (28) from Buldhana, Sanket Prabhakar Unhale (26) also from Buldhana, and Rahul Gopal Patil (35) from Nashik—have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody till October 19. The accused allegedly targeted failed FMGE candidates, providing them fake scorecards, provisional medical registration certificates, internship completion certificates and other documents to obtain medical registration.
The case surfaced after Rakesh Balaji Waghmare, a Maharashtra Medical Council manager, flagged suspicious documents submitted during online registration. Police investigations revealed that Patil prepared the forged documents and charged between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh per candidate. Sixteen foreign medical graduates are currently under scanner in connection with the racket.
