ED case against Pinarayi Vijayan has political motives, alleges CPI(M)

CPI(M) leader M.V. Govindan has alleged that the Enforcement Directorate case against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is driven by political motives. Govindan contended that the UDF government, currently led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, is working in alignment with the ED, which he said is handling the matter with clear partisan intent.
The allegation reflects the ongoing political friction in Kerala between the ruling UDF coalition and the opposition CPI(M). Vijayan, who led the state until May 2023, has faced scrutiny from central agencies on various matters since stepping down from office.
Govindan's claims add to the broader debate over the use of investigative agencies in politically sensitive cases, a recurring theme in Indian politics. The CPI(M) has consistently maintained that such actions are weaponized against opposition leaders.
