ED investigates TMC MP Nadimul Haque over ₹60 crore suspicious transactions linked to Urdu newspaper

The Enforcement Directorate has launched investigations into alleged suspicious transactions worth approximately ₹60 crore linked to an Urdu newspaper associated with TMC Rajya Sabha member Nadimul Haque. The agency conducted raids across multiple locations, including Kolkata, on September 7, with operations continuing for over 24 hours. Haque was questioned at his residence and office in Kolkata.
During the investigation, the ED identified alleged irregularities in around ₹60 crore in transactions and found that satisfactory documentary records were not provided for several transactions. The agency is examining whether these transactions were part of regular newspaper operations or indicative of other financial activities, including potential hawala channels.
The ED's inquiry is based on an FIR filed against the newspaper and related individuals, focusing on money laundering aspects. The agency is tracing the source of funds, entities involved in transactions, related bank accounts, and investigating the actual use of funds and ultimate beneficiaries.
