The Enforcement Directorate's Surat sub-zonal office has attached 17 immovable properties worth approximately ₹6.52 crore belonging to Suresh Jagubhai Patel, alias 'Sukha', under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The properties are located in Daman and Gujarat's Valsad district.
ED initiated the money laundering investigation based on FIRs filed by Daman, Gujarat, and Mumbai police against Patel and his associates. The cases involve serious charges including corruption, illegal weapons possession, murder, extortion, forgery, passport fraud, and copyright violation.
According to ED's findings, Patel allegedly used threats, intimidation, muscle power, and his criminal record to establish monopoly over scrap trading and transport business in Daman by eliminating rival traders. ED filed a prosecution complaint in Daman's special PMLA court on November 27, 2024.
