Election Commission Meets to Address SIR Row, Pledges Transparency

The Election Commission of India convened on September 26 at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi in attendance. According to ECI Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal, the Commission unanimously adopted several decisions and released details through an official press note.
The meeting addressed ongoing controversy surrounding the poll panel's functioning, including reports of objections raised by two Election Commissioners on various matters related to SIRs (Scrutiny of Identity and Residence). The ECI reiterated that all final decisions on SIR were taken unanimously.
As part of its latest decisions, the Commission eased the hearing process for voters receiving SIR notices and extended certain deadlines, aiming to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
