Election Commission Faces Scrutiny Over Electoral Roll Revision Process

The Election Commission of India is under increased scrutiny following reports that two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, repeatedly objected to aspects of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Their concerns reportedly centered on voter registration, deletions and access to electoral-roll data.
The Commission has dismissed suggestions of internal discord, stating that differing views are a routine element of decision-making processes. It asserted that all SIR-related decisions were reached unanimously.
The situation has prompted political calls for enhanced transparency and accountability from the poll panel, raising questions about its institutional independence and decision-making procedures.
