Election Commission Eases Verification Process for Delhi SIR Voters

The Election Commission has streamlined the verification process for voters receiving notices during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Delhi for being "unmapped" or having "logical discrepancies." Booth Level Officers will now visit voters' homes to collect required documents and upload them to ECINet for review by the Electoral Registration Officer.
Under the new guidelines, voters will generally not need to appear personally before the Electoral Registration Officer or Additional Electoral Registration Officer. Hearings will be conducted only in exceptional circumstances and preferably held online. An adult family member can be authorised to represent the elector in online hearings if needed.
The decision follows Supreme Court concerns over the issuance of "logical discrepancy" notices and its suggestion for greater human verification and easier response mechanisms. The ECI stated its SIR decisions were taken unanimously.
