Election Commission caps Form-7 filings to curb bulk objections

The Election Commission has tightened restrictions on Form-7 filings to combat the problem of mass objections lacking substantive grounds. The new cap applies to both online and offline submissions of the form, which is used to lodge objections against voter registrations.
The move follows mounting concerns that bulk objections were creating administrative burdens for election officials and causing unnecessary disruption to legitimate voters. The EC determined that many such filings lacked proper supporting documentation or valid grounds.
The stricter limits aim to ensure that only genuine, well-founded objections are filed while reducing the workload on electoral staff during the voter registration process. The measure applies uniformly across all states and union territories.
