Ernakulam panchayat considers limiting pet dogs to three per household

The Ernakulam District panchayat is weighing new regulations that would cap pet ownership at three dogs per household as part of a broader animal welfare initiative. The proposed rules include mandatory licensing for pet owners and breeders, along with microchipping requirements to track dogs and reduce pet abandonment.
The district also plans a comprehensive stray dog management programme encompassing sterilisation, vaccination, and designated feeding centres. The initiative aims to address concerns around uncontrolled pet ownership and improve overall canine welfare across the region.
