Ex-CJI Gavai accuses sitting SC judge Bhuyan of judicial impropriety over SIR remarks

Former Chief Justice of India BR Gavai has accused sitting Supreme Court judge Ujjal Bhuyan of judicial impropriety for his remarks criticising the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process used to delete voters from electoral rolls.
Justice Bhuyan had raised concerns that disenfranchising citizens through SIR violates constitutional rights. Gavai expressed reservations about judges commenting on ongoing legal matters, suggesting such public statements undermine judicial propriety.
Former Supreme Court judge Rohinton Fali Nariman also expressed concerns about the democratic implications of voters being removed from electoral lists, adding to the debate on the voter deletion process.
