Fake Video Falsely Claims PM Modi Called India World’s Second-Largest Beef Producer; PIB Issues Fact Check

A manipulated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral across social media platforms, falsely attributing to him a statement that India is the world's second-largest beef producer. The edited clip has triggered widespread debate online, prompting the government's fact-checking agency to step in and clarify the record.
The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit confirmed that the viral video is fabricated and that the audio circulating with the clip has been tampered with. According to the agency, the footage was originally recorded during Prime Minister Modi's address at an event in Auckland, New Zealand, but the words being attributed to him in the viral version were never spoken.
PIB clarified that during the original speech, the Prime Minister referred to India as the world's second-largest wheat producer, not a beef producer. The agency stressed that the viral claim is completely false and misrepresents the content of the original address.
In a statement shared on social media, the PIB Fact Check unit said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not make any such statement. At the Auckland event, he stated that India is the world's second-largest wheat producer." The agency also released the original, unedited video to counter the misleading clip circulating online.
The government has urged citizens not to rely on edited videos or unverified social media posts, warning that manipulated content can easily spread misinformation and create unnecessary confusion.
Officials have advised users to verify viral claims through trusted government sources, including the PIB Fact Check platform, before sharing them further. The incident serves as another reminder of the growing use of altered videos and artificial intelligence-based manipulation to spread false narratives on social media.
With digitally edited content becoming increasingly sophisticated, authorities continue to encourage the public to cross-check sensational claims with official channels to prevent the spread of misinformation.
