Around 50 farmers detained in Trichy over Cauvery water dispute with Karnataka

Approximately 50 farmers, led by activist Ayyakannu, were detained in Tiruchirapalli over the Cauvery water issue. The farmers were protesting against the Karnataka government's alleged refusal to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The Cauvery river dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka remains a longstanding inter-state water-sharing conflict. Tamil Nadu has repeatedly sought compliance with earlier agreements and court orders regarding water allocation from the shared river.
