Fishing days halved in four years due to climate crisis, says CMFRI Director

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) Director has flagged a sharp decline in fishing days, which have fallen from around 200 to nearly 110 over the past four years. The decline is attributed to adverse climatic conditions impacting the sector's viability.
Given the shrinking window for fishing operations, the Director has called for economic diversification within the fishing community and greater empowerment of women to build resilience against climate-driven vulnerabilities.
