FM calls for robust tax policy research, urges industry to focus beyond rate cuts

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged the industry to look beyond interest rate cuts and focus on compliance and revenue generation. She drew comparisons with established institutions such as the Institute for Fiscal Studies in the UK and the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in Amsterdam.
Sitharaman stressed that India needs more visible and rigorous independent tax policy research. The FM's remarks underscore the government's push for a stronger institutional framework to support evidence-based tax policymaking and encourage broader participation from industry in addressing fiscal challenges.
